Job Description:
State representatives introduce and vote on bills that represent the interests of their constituents (people who live in their voting district). They create new laws, modify or update old laws and serve on research committees within the legislative branch. These representatives uphold the state's Constitution, and vote on changes to the Constitution when amendments are needed. They may address issues such as education, transportation, commerce, state taxes and any other items that are a concern to local residents. Representatives may also assist constituents with personal legal issues such as immigration or justice problems.

Pending Legislation:
Gun Violence Prevention and Community Safety Act of 2020. This bill makes various changes to the federal framework governing the sale, transfer, and possession of firearms and ammunition. Among other things, the bill does the following: generally requires individuals to obtain a license to purchase, acquire, or possess a firearm or ammunition;

Community Lapses:
veteran Bellwood police detective was indicted Thursday on charges he aided and protected his cousin in purchasing hundreds of thousands of dollars of merchandise with fraudulent credit cards and counterfeit checks, pawning the goods and splitting the cash.
